Adarna House, the country’s first children’s book publishing firm shall hold the 7th Annual Barlaya Workshop on November 13 & 14. The theme for this year’s Barlaya is Writing and Designing NonFiction Books for Children. Writers and designers who would like to participate in the workshop shall go through a screening process. Requirements for the screening are the following:
For Prospective Authors
• Submit a manuscript meant to be published as nonfiction, targeted at children 3 to 12 years old. Manuscripts should not exceed 30 pages (typewritten, double-spaced, short bond paper).
• Manuscripts may also be two full chapters from an intended reference book on local culture, history, science or math. These two chapters should not exceed 30 pages (typewritten, double-spaced, short bond paper).
• All manuscripts should be accompanied by a one-page background of the author, as well as complete contact details.
• There should be 3 copies of each manuscript submitted. |
For Prospective Illustrators
• Submit two fully designed and laid out spreads of a nonfiction book, based on this zipfile (8.2MB).
• Each spread should measure 14.5 x 10.5 inches. Any medium may be used for the spreads, digital art is also accepted.
• Each submission should be properly labeled and should be accompanied by a one-page background of the designer, as well as complete contact details. |
All submissions should be brought to Adarna House by 5 pm, September 19, 2008. Email submissions are not allowed.
Employees of Adarna House up to the 2nd degree of co-sanguinity are not allowed to join the contest.
The ten fellows chosen for the workshop will be notified no later than the first week of October, 2008. Non-winning submissions must be claimed no later than October 17, 2008, after which they will no longer be the responsibility of Adarna House, Inc.
