UP Student Wins PBBY-Salanga Silver Prize

The Philippine Board on Books for Young People awards the 2008 PBBY-Salanga Silver Prize to Nanoy Rafael, for his story entitled Naku, nakuu, nakuuu!. The winning story is about a young boy expecting a new sibling.

 This year’s honorable mention winners are Russell Molina (Ako si Kaliwa, Ako si Kanan) and Eugene Evasco (May Riles sa Tiyan ni Tatay).

2008 marks the 25th National Children’s Book Day. To commemorate this event, Rafael will be given a special Silver Anniversary cash prize of P25,000.00 in addition to the regular cash prize of P25,000.00, a gold medal, and an opportunity to be published. Prizes will be awarded on National Children’s Book Day in July 2008.

 Rafael is currently a BA Psychology major at UP Diliman. He is also member of LIRA, a group of Filipino poets. Rafael was a fellow for poetry at the 7th Annual Ateneo Writers Workshop.
